Rho Iota has the great opportunity to be able to work with the Kentucky Children's Miracle Network Hospital, which is right on campus! Throughout the year, we do hospital visits. Our sisters love going to visit the children at the hospital to spread love and support. When we aren't at the hospital, we make door decorations for the children's rooms to go along with holidays. At Halloween, we made pumpkins and ghosts for their doors, and the children loved it! UK's largest fundraising event, Dance Blue, holds a special place in Phi Mu's heart, as it raises money for Kentucky Children's Hospitals. Sisters participate in this 24 hour dance marathon each year, and it's one of our favorite ways to help the campus support the hospitals that we as chapter work to raise money for throughout the year. Each year, we participate in a Day of Service, where sisters go across the Lexington community to support and help out local organizations. Sisters went to places like the Ronald McDonald House, the Nest, the Human Society, and many more.
The two main philanthropy events that we host in support of the hospital are Bonnamu in the fall, and Cheesin’ for the Children in the spring. This semester, we raised $15,757.30 from our Bonnamu event. This is the largest amount that we have ever raised and believe as the chapter grows we will continue to raise even more. For our Cheesin’ for the Children event in the spring, we open our house to the campus and allow them to purchase a $5 all you can eat cheesey food buffet. Spring of 2017, we raised over $3,000.
